Today I turned goose food into human food.

We have 2 Embden geese on our little hobby farm. (Just incase you don’t know what they are, they’re the big white geese that are too fat to fly.)

Embden geese eat mostly grass, but we also feed them wheat as part of their diet, and wheat is also what flour is made from. Our sheep are also obsessed with wheat as a treat, and sometimes literally step on the geese as they try to beat them to it.

A couple of months ago, my dad ordered a wheat grinder that attaches to our Kitchen Aid mixer, and we used it a couple of times, and today we were having company over so my dad wanted to make whole wheat bread and asked me if I wanted to make it, and I agreed. The recipe he handed to me was really simple, and didn’t have very many ingredients, so I got to work right away.

I mixed up the dough and let it rise for half an hour in the bowl, and then for 45 minutes in the loaf pans. It took a long time and a lot of patience, but It turned out to be delicious.

My dad says that making bread with only freshly ground whole wheat flour is a bit tricky, and that a lot of recipes use only partly whole wheat flour mixed with white flour. This recipe is an excellent one to try if you ever decide to dive in and begin grinding your own whole wheat flour and want to use only your own flour.
